New Year, New You: Mastering Goal Setting and Staying on Track in 2024

Happy (early) New Year! As we welcome 2024, many of us are brimming with aspirations and resolutions, especially when it comes to our health and wellness. But how do we move beyond just setting goals to actually achieving them? In today’s post, I’ll share some key strategies for effective goal setting and staying on track, and introduce you to resources that can help make this journey smoother - including our Wellness Warrior program and an exciting new digital cookbook designed for healthy, easy cooking.

The Art of Setting Achievable Goals Be Specific and Realistic: Instead of vague goals like “get fit”, aim for specific, achievable targets like “attend three fitness classes per week” or “perform pelvic floor exercises every morning” or “spend 5 minutes every evening” or “go for a 15 minute walk 3x per week before work”.

Break It Down: Large goals can be overwhelming. Break them down into smaller, manageable tasks that you can tackle daily or weekly. So, instead of “I want to lose 50 pounds”, and not creating a game plan - or worse, crash dieting in an unmanageable way, think, “I’d like to lose on average 1 pound a week, by the end of the year, that will be 52 pounds”. From there, developing a game plan to make this goal feels a lot more achievable. The small things add up, and building habits is what helps!

Write Them Down: Putting your goals in writing can make them feel more tangible and help you stay committed. Have your goal be the first thing you think of right when you wake up - whether it’s a sticky note right next to bed, or even posted on the door before you leave, that constant reminder will help you stay accountable.

Staying on Track: The Wellness Warrior Way The Wellness Warrior Program by Kos Physiotherapy and Wellness is a way to help stay on track with your wellness goals. This program is designed to provide continuous support and guidance, helping you stay focused and motivated. Here's how it can help:

Healthy Eating Made Simple: One of the biggest challenges in maintaining a healthy lifestyle is often diet. To help you on this front, I'm excited to introduce our upcoming digital cookbook. It’s packed with recipes that are not only nutritious but also quick and easy to prepare, perfect for busy lifestyles. Here’s a sneak peek at what you can expect:

  • Quick, Healthy Recipes: Enjoy a range of recipes that are both delicious and straightforward to prepare. (The goal is to have 10 minute recipes that are all or mostly 5 ingredients or less…and ingredients that you will likely already have and will use!)

  • Nutrition Tips: Get insights into making healthier food choices without compromising on taste. (Hey! As a former pastry chef, one thing I am not willing to sacrifice is taste and flavor! No cardboard flavored food here!)

Tracking Progress and Celebrating Successes Monitor Your Progress: Keep track of your progress towards your goals. This could be through a journal, an app, or regular sessions with a health professional.

Celebrate Milestones: Don’t forget to celebrate the small victories along your journey. These milestones are important motivators.
